Sunol, California

Sunol is a census-designated place (CDP)located in Alameda County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,332. The small, rural town of Sunol is well known for its historic railroad system. The large Calaveras Reservoir lies south of Sunol.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 85.0 km² (32.8 mi²). 85.0 km² (32.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.03% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,332 people, 483 households, and 368 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 15.7/km² (40.6/mi²). There are 503 housing units at an average density of 5.9/km² (15.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 84.46% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.98% Native American, 4.80% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 4.13% from other races, and 5.41% from two or more races. 8.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 483 households out of which 32.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.3% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 17.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.12. In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 33.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 106.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.4 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $88,353, and the median income for a family is $96,121. Males have a median income of $77,666 versus $37,102 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $45,773. 1.4% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
