Sunday Times Rich List 2005The Sunday Times Rich List 2005 lists the 1000 richest individuals or families living in the United Kingdom as measured in January 2005. The list was published in The Sunday Times (sister paper to The Times) on 3 April 2005. It is based on identifiable wealth such as land, property and significant shares in publicly quoted companies, but not bank accounts or other items to which the newspaper has no access. The Sunday Times Rich List was published last year as the Sunday Times Rich List 2004. Statistics - There are 40 billionaires.
- There are 1,022 men on the list, and 78 women.
- 751 are self-made millionaires, while 249 inherited their wealth.
- The combined wealth of the top 10 is 52.55bn (10bn more than the top 200 in 1994).
- The total combined wealth is the highest yet recorded, 23.3% more than last year.
- There are 39 new entries worth 100m or more and 109 worth less than 100m
- The oldest person in the list is Sir Julian Hodge, 99, who with his family has a fortune of 48m.
- The youngest person in the list is Nina Hagen, 22, who is worth 225m.
- Sir Elton John is the most generous, giving an estimated 12% of his wealth to charity.
