Summer Science ProgramThe Summer Science Program (SSP) is a competitive six-week summer program for rising juniors and seniors. It is a program on astronomy based on an research project in celestial mechanics. Results are submitted to the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. A large number of alumni from the program eventually end up matriculating at prestigious institutions such as Caltech, MIT, and Ivy League schools. Additionally, distinguished speakers have come to the campus, including Maarten Schmidt, who has done pioneering work in quasars, and the late Richard Feynman, a Nobel laureate in physics. Established in 1959, the Summer Science Program now takes place at two locations, New Mexico Tech in Socorro, and Happy Valley School in Ojai, California (northwest of Los Angeles). The curriculum is identical at the two campuses. External Links: http://www.summerscience.org
