Sugar Beet Syrup

Sugar beet syrup is a thick, dark syrup made from sugar beets. It is produced by cooking shredded sugar beets for several hours, pressing the resulting sugar beet mash and concentrating the juice until it has the consistency of honey. It contains no added ingredients, and undergoes no further chemical treatment. In Germany, particularly in the Rhineland area, sugar beet syrup is used as a sandwich spread, as well as for sweetening sauces, cakes and desserts.
