Stroma, Scotland

Stroma is an island off the north-east coast of Scotland, lying in the Pentland Firth between the Orkney Isles and mainland Caithness, to which it belongs. A lighthouse on the island was automated in 1996, removing the last human presence from Stroma. Otherwise the island was abandoned in 1961, despite having had a population of 375 in 1901.
