Stratford High School is a secondary school in Houston, Texas. The school is a part of the Spring Branch Independent School District and serves grades 9-12. It is located in the western portion of Houston, in the region known as the "Memorial area." Stratford is generally recognized as one of the best public high schools in the Houston metropolitan area. Stratford provides courses in the traditional academic subjects, as well as several foreign languages, technology, vocational education, athletics, and fine arts. Several different Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered at Stratford, and consistently over 95% of seniors attend college after graduating. Stratford High School has been named a National Exemplary School, as well as a Texas Exemplary School by the Texas Education Association. In 1978, Stratford's football team won the state championship, and they returned to the state championship game in 1987. The women's volleyball team advanced to the state championship game in 2001 and 2002. The Stratford Orchestra has been named the Texas State Honor Orchestra for multiple years. The Stratford Playhouse puts on award-winning theater productions that attract patrons from throughout the Houston area. In 2004, it was found that the Stratford High School building had structural problems, so the Stratford campus was closed and the students were moved to the Westchester Academy for International Studies while repairs went on at the Stratford campus.
