The county is named for Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, the famous Confederate General. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,383 km² (920 mi²). 2,379 km² (919 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water.
