Stone Of Tears

Stone Of Tears is the second book in the Sword of Truth series of books. It was written by Terry Goodkind and was released in 1996 in hardcover.

The Story

The second book in the Sword of Truth series continues the tale of Richard Cypher's adventures, from where we left him at the end of Wizard's First Rule. Since his defeat of Darken Rahl Richard finds himself the ruler of the D'Harian empire. After the banishing of Darken Rahl, his father, the gift begins to grow in him causing him a series of painful headaches. Whilst trying to cope with the headaches Richard inadvertently brings his father Darken Rahl through the veil, and back into the world, where he continues his job of trying to bring the keeper into the world. This mistaken invitation causes a breach in the veil and puts the whole world at risk. Later it transpires that these headaches are fatal and unstoppable, so Richard is forced by Kahlan to visit the Old World, where he can study and learn to become a Wizard at the Palace of the Prophets. The palace is staffed by a group of religious teachers known as the Sisters of the light. They see their job as spreading knowledge of the creator to the world via their trained wizards. During his stay at the palace Richard comes to terms with the fact that he does have the gift of magic, and possesses both sides of the gift. This allows him to close the veil and thwart Darken Rahl, by casting him far into the underworld.
