Star Trek Online is the working title of an MMORPG in development by Perpetual Entertainment annouced on September 7, 2004. It is expected to be a major release that will create a massive online arena for PC players to participate as a person in the Star Trek universe. The stated plan calls for the beta test to begin in 2006 with the launch by early 2007.

Gameplay

A player will take on the persona of an individual, beginning as a cadet in Starfleet. The game will include elements of both third- and first-person shooters. Players will be able to travel and explore space, the surface of planets, and engage in PvP combat via the holodeck. Ship crews may range from a few bridge crew members to several hundred aboard larger vessels. Players will be giving the option to specialize their skills in a particular area such as engineering, science, medical, tactical, and flight control - as well as taking the role of Commanding Officer.

Setting

The game is to be set in the 24th century (the era of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, etc.) after the latest movie (i.e. ). Missions will include storylines and characters from other parts of the Star Trek franchise. Players will begin at Starfleet Academy, where they will learn basic combat and skills to get started. Players may live in crew quarters on ships, but may sometimes live on home planets or star bases.
