Star Party

A star party is a gathering of amateur astronomers for the purpose of observing the sky. Typically a dark site is chosen away from light pollution. Participants bring telescopes of all sizes and spend the evening watching the stars together. Like any other hobbyist gathering, there is usually much camaraderie and discussion of the hobby. At larger events, dealers may be present who sell astronomical equipment and courses may be given in various topics by experts in the field. Some of the leading star parties include:
  • Stellafane (Vermont)
  • Mid Atlantic Star Party (North Carolina)
  • Winter Star Party (Florida)
  • Texas Star Party
  • Riverside Telescope Makers' Conference (California)
  • Oregon Star Party
