Stan Persky

Stan Persky (born 1941 in Chicago, Illinois) is a Canadian writer, media commentator and sociology instructor. As a young man, Persky received a letter of encouragement from Jack Kerouac. This inspired him to pursue a writing career. Persky served in the United States Navy, before moving to Vancouver, Canada. He helped co-found the Georgia Straight Writing Supplements, which eventually became New Star Books. He has served as a media commentator, a columnist for The Globe and Mail and a sociology instructor at Capilano College. He has also written frequently for The Body Politic and This Magazine.
