Stage Names

A stage name is a name used by a performer in place of their real name. Often the stage name is flashier or easier to remember, such as Beatles drummer Richard Starkey adopting the name Ringo Starr, or easier to pronounce, like Rush bassist and singer Gary Lee Weinrib adopting the name Geddy Lee. Some performers have adopted stage names to avoid ethnic names, and some simply to hide behind anomynity, such as the bands The Traveling Wilburys or A Halo Called Fred. Also see pen name, pseudonym.
