St. Mark's School Of TexasThe St. Mark's School of Texas is a non-sectarian preparatory day school for boys located in Dallas, Texas. The school runs from first grade to grade 12. History In 1906, Mr. Terrill founded the Terrill School, a day and boarding school which was to become St. Mark's. In 1913 The Hockaday School for Girls was founded, which was later to become a "sister" school to St. Mark's. The school today The current campus consists of 40 acres (162,000 m²) located near Preston and Royal in North Dallas. The enrollment is approximately 800 students from pre-K to 12. The student to faculty ratio is approximately 9:1. The impressive campus includes such facilities as a planetarium and a small observatory. The school recently was given bells to put in the bell tower, which was previously empty. The school colors are blue and gold, and the current uniform consists of uniform grey slacks or shorts and blue dress-shirts for seniors, white for the rest of the student body. The school coat of arms bears a lion, the school mascot, which is traditionallly associated with St. Mark. Students at St. Mark's are commonly referred to as "Marksmen". Marksmen may take classes that are not offered on his home campus at Hockaday instead and vice versa. This allows the two schools, which are located only a few miles apart, to offer subjects that are in lower demand while keeping options open for their students. For instance, French, AP Statistics, and AP Studio Art are taught exclusively at Hockaday, while German, AP Economics, AP Enviromental Science, and Psychology are taught exclusively at St. Mark's, and Drama is split. Student Life The school has a well known community service program set up which requires every upper school student to preform at least 15 hours of service every year. They also sponsor a strong robotics team, math team, and sports teams. Famous alumni External link
