St Paul's Rocks

St Paul's Rocks (sometimes St Peter and St Paul Rocks) are a number of small islets lying in the Atlantic Ocean about 1 degree north of the equator and over 500 km from the nearest land, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge rises above the waterline. The rocks, with a total area of less than 2 hectares, are inhabited by sea birds, insects and spiders, but have never been inhabited by humans. They are claimed by Brazil. On the morning of February 16, 1832 the rocks were visited by Charles Darwin on the first leg of his voyage of the HMS Beagle around the world.
