History
The company was founded in 1842 by
Julius Springer
in
Berlin
. At first it mainly published political and philosophical works. In
1968
the Springer publishing house became infamous among
Germany
's students for portraying them in a bad light during the
German student movement
. Springer's
tabloid
Bild-Zeitung
described
Rudi Dutschke
, an important leader of the movement, as "public enemy number one" and a few days later he was shot by a
Neo-Nazi
.
