Spring Hill, Indiana

Spring Hill is a town located in Marion County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 97. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 712. It has existed as an "included town" since 1970, when it was incorporated into Indianapolis as part of Unigov, losing governmental powers thereto. It is legally part of Indianapolis, according to Indiana Code 36-3-1-4 sec. 4(a)(2), which states that the territory of a consolidated city (Indianpolis/Unigov) shall include "all other territory in the county except territory of an excluded city." While it is claimed that these "included towns" retain town status as defined by the state constitution, the current constitution of the state of Indiana does not define town status.

Geography

Spring Hill is located at 39°49'58" North, 86°11'33" West (39.832911, -86.192631). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 97 people, 55 households, and 28 families residing in the town. The population density is 340.5/km² (881.1/mi²). There are 63 housing units at an average density of 221.1/km² (572.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.85% White, 5.15% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 55 households out of which 3.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% are married couples living together, 0.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 47.3% are non-families. 36.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.76 and the average family size is 2.21. In the town the population is spread out with 5.2% under the age of 18, 2.1% from 18 to 24, 13.4% from 25 to 44, 47.4% from 45 to 64, and 32.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 58 years. For every 100 females there are 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $103,337, and the median income for a family is $107,033. Males have a median income of $44,063 versus $55,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $77,390. 10.4% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
