Spread Eagle (Figure Skating)

The spread eagle is one of the 'Moves in the Field' in the sport of figure skating, in which a skater glides on both feet, the toes turned out to the sides, heels facing each other: it can be done on either the inside or outside edges. Historically a man's move, although it has recently started to catch on with women skaters like Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen; even today, the spread eagles in men's programs are held longer and are much more dramatic. 1988 Olympic medalist Brian Boitano is known for his perfect spread eagles.
