Specularity
Specularity
is the quality used in many 3D
Rendering
programs to set the size and the
brightness
of a
texture's
reflection to
light
. Adding specularity into a render allows one to add
highlights
to an object. Specularity only provides an
illusion
of
reflection
to the light. The
function
of specularity only provides a central
hotspot
and the
halo
surrounding it. In some situations, specularity is preferred over reflection because of faster render speeds (due to the complexity of
raytracing
in reflection algorithms) and because, even though
reflection mapping
is more realistic, specularity algorithms often appear more realistic.
