Southern California Earthquake CenterThe Southern California Earthquake Center was founded in 1991, with the purpose of gathering information on earthquakes, analysing the information to help understand earthquake phenomena and to use this information to increase public awareness to earthquakes, as well as minimizing the loss of life and property. Currently, SCEC is headquarted at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. SCEC receives much of its funding for research activites through the National Science Foundation. SCEC is a collaborative effort between the following organizations: An additional twenty-five universities and organizations also participate in SCEC programs and research, ranging from JPL and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to universities as far away as the University of Kentucky.
