South Vinemont is a town located in Cullman County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 425.

Geography

South Vinemont is located at 34°14'1" North, 86°51'46" West (34.233641, -86.862916). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 425 people, 180 households, and 115 families residing in the town. The population density is 252.5/km² (651.6/mi²). There are 203 housing units at an average density of 120.6/km² (311.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.59% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 1.41% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 3.29% from two or more races. 4.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 180 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 6.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.1% are non-families. 31.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.93. In the town the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $26,806, and the median income for a family is $35,000. Males have a median income of $30,250 versus $16,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,141. 16.5% of the population and 11.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 18.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
