Something For KateSomething for Kate is a rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Its lineup as of 2003 include primary songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Paul Dempsey, drummer Clint Hyndman, and bassist Stephanie Ashworth. Paul and Clint met a Padua College, Mornington Peninsula. Stephanie joined up later after a distingished career in the band Sandpit. Ashworth is the only current non-founding member. Previous bassists include: - Julian Carroll 1995-98 Left to persue career and family. Julian played with the band on 2nd September 2004 at a special one-off 10-year celebration gig at Melbourne's Prince of Wales.
- Toby Ralph 1998-99 Left due to creative differences. Toby directed the Prick filmclip.
Touring memebers have included: - Wally Gunn - second guitar
- Phillip 'Pip' Branson - second guitar and violin. Ex-member of Sydney band Sidewinder.
- Simon Burke - keyboards
History of Name Early on they used the name El President, before changing that to Fish of the Day. The publican at their first gig asked them to change it. The new words were chosen from a shopping list. Kate being Paul Dempsey's Jack_Russell_terrier. Fans often shorten the name to SFK or S4K. Pseudonyms Something for Kate have played some secret shows under dummey names. The filmclips from Subject to Change to Whatever you Want, along with a live version of Truly (recorded at the UNSW Roundhouse), were collected on a video, The World According to Bart Something for Kate also released a dvd, titled A Diversion, featuring film clips and a short film. The actor who plays prominent roles in the early clips (the Dean Martin character, the Captain) is a friend of the band. - Subject to Change
