Sofia Rotaru

Sofia Rotaru (born August 7, 1947) is a Soviet / Ukrainian singer from a Moldovan family. She has sung songs in Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian languages, which were equally popular throughout the Soviet Union (e.g. such superhit as "Romantică", in Romanian). Her songs have become the classics of Soviet and post-Soviet stage. Sofia was casting in seven musical films, created the main roles in films "Soul" and "Where are you, love?". She has performedn concerts in the United States, Asia, Europe, Australia. Sofia has got dozen of prizes, awards and medals. President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and President of Russia Vladimir Putin have given awards to Sofia Rotaru in August 2002 (for her 45th birthday), giving her the high rank of the Hero of Ukraine for her "outstanding personal merits in the sphere of art", and the Russian order "For merits before the Nation", respectively.
