Sofala Bank

The Sofala Bank is Mozambique's major shelf area covering the largest part of the continental shelf, about 80 nautical miles from the coast of Sofala to the shelf break. The average depth of the Sofala Bank is about 20 m. Most of the Mozambican rivers enter the sea through Sofala Bank, with an annual runoff of more than 100 km3. The Sofala Bank is the area of the most important Mozambican fishery, the shallow water shrimp fishery where the dominating species is the Indian White Shrimp.
