Sky Tower

Sky Tower is a tower located in downtown Auckland, New Zealand, near the corner of Victoria Street and Federal Street. From ground level to the very top it is 328 metres tall, making it the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere. The landmark is a part of the SKYCITY Auckland casino complex, owned and operated by SKYCITY Entertainment Group. After two and a half years of construction the tower was opened on March 3, 1997. It attracts over 600,000 visitors each year. As well as being used for observation and amusement, the tower is used for telecommunications and broadcasting. The upper portion of the tower contains two restaurants. It is the 12th tallest member of the World Federation of Great Towers. See Also: List of towers
