Skorradalsvatn

Skorradalsvatn is a lake in the west of Iceland. It is lying in a narrow valley between the Hvalfjrur and the valley Reykholtsdalur (see Reykholt). Its length is about 15 km. Around the lake, there are some higher mountains like for example Skarsheii. People are often surprised when they see the shores of the lake: There is a lot of smaller and bigger forests. They are due to a governmental program of reforestation. For consequence, the valley is looking a bit like some regions in the Alps, for example near Salzburg in Austria. The lke is also a reservoir so that the level of the water surface has been lifted. But that was not very good for the fish in the lake, a lot of them died suddenly. There are no villages on the shores, but a lot of weekend huts. See also: Lakes of Iceland
