Situs AmbiguousSitus ambiguous (also known as heterotaxy) is a rare congenital defect in which the major visceral organs are distributed abnormally within the thorax and abdomen. The normal position of the organs is known as situs solitus; situs inversus is a condition in which the usual posistions of the organs are reversed from left to right as a mirror image of the normal condition. Situs ambiguous is an intermediate condition in which situs cannot be determined. Normally unilateral structures (such as the spleen) may be duplicated or absent, the liver may lie on the midline, and the bowel may be malrotated. External links
