Singkawang

About 160 km north of Pontianak is the municipality of Singkawang, population estimated to be about 150,000 residents, of which 70% are Chinese descent. Beside the national language of Bahasa Indonesia, the Chinese dialect of Hakka is commonly use by the general population, including the non-chinese ethnic groups. It is surrounded by the sea on one side and the mountains of Pasi, Poteng and Sakok on the other side Places of interest in Singkawang include Bukit Bougenville a botanical garden of sort, Pasir Panjang beach resort.
