Simba Wanyika

Simba Wanyika is a band, consisting of Tanzanian musicians Wilson Peter and George Peter Kinyonga, brothers. They began recording under the name in 1972 (see 1972 in music) and were very popular and helped invent a sound known as rumba, which dominated pop sales in Kenya and much of eastern Africa during the 70s. A rival group called Les Wanyika formed in the late 1970s after Omar Shabini led a large number of former members to his new band. George Peter Kinyonga took more members in 1980 (see 1980 in music) to form Orchestra Jobisa, though he eventually returned.
