Shungnak, AlaskaShungnak is a city located in Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 256. Geography Shungnak is located at 66°53'9" North, 157°8'15" West (66.885846, -157.137458). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.9 km² (9.6 mi²). 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.10% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 256 people, 56 households, and 51 families residing in the city. The population density is 11.8/km² (30.6/mi²). There are 64 housing units at an average density of 3.0/km² (7.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 5.47% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 94.53% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 56 households out of which 66.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 16.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 8.9% are non-families. 7.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.57 and the average family size is 4.53.
