Shaw Neilson

John Shaw Neilson was born in 1872, at Penola, South Australia. For most of his life, he worked as a labourer, fruit-picking, clearing scrub, navvying and working in quarries, or, after 1928, working as a messenger with the Country Roads Board in Melbourne. Like his father, Neilson wrote poems. These, chiefly with the help of A. G. Stephens, were collected in a number of publications. Neilson died in 1942.
