Geography Shanor-Northvue is located at 40°54'13" North, 79°54'30" West (40.903647, -79.908405). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.5 km² (6.7 mi²). 17.4 km² (6.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,825 people, 1,997 households, and 1,373 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 277.2/km² (718.1/mi²). There are 2,093 housing units at an average density of 120.3/km² (311.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.18% White, 0.39% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,997 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.91. In the CDP the population is spread out with 21.7% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.9 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $43,158, and the median income for a family is $53,426. Males have a median income of $45,000 versus $27,067 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,852. 5.1% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line.
