Shannara

The Shannara series, written by Terry Brooks, follows the lives of the Ohmsford (ne Shannara) family. The first three books, The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara follow Shea and Flick Ohmsford and their immediate descendants. The first book has been criticized for borrowing too much from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The next four books, known as The Heritage of Shannara, are set 300 years after the first books. They are in order, The Scions of Shannara, The Druid of Shannara, The Elf Queen of Shannara and The Talismans of Shannara. These follow three of Shea's descendants: Walker, Coll, and Par as well as a cousin named Wren. The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy is set aboard the airship Jerle Shannara and is the continuation of Walker Boh's story. The latest trilogy High Druid of Shannara focuses on Grianne Ohmsford and is set 20 years after The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara. The prequel First King of Shannara is set during the lifetime of Jerle Shannara (who the airship is named after), an ancestor of Shea. The familial relationships between the main characters can be seen in the Shannara family tree. The books set the backgound for an e-mail based role playing group and writing club, the Druids of Paranor.
