shaitan (dict)

Shaitan

Shaitan is the Arabic (شيطان) word for "Adversary". It could possibly be a derivation of from Hebrew "שָׂטָן" Satan, in Islam known as Iblis (إبليس). The adversary of Allah is called by this name or title in the Qur'an. In the Dune novels, Shaitan is the name used also for Satan, the evil side of Shai-hulud. In the Wheel of Time novels, Shai'tan is the true name of the Dark One.
