Serdes

SERDES stands for SERializer/DESerializer. SERDES is a device used in high speed communications. It converts data from/to a serial data stream and a parallel data stream. SERDES usually involves using a DC-balanced coding scheme, e.g. 8B/10B encoding. The purpose of coding is to maintain sufficient transitions for the receiver to extract the embedded clock; another reason for coding is to generate a DC-balanced serial stream which will reduce intersymbol interference.
