Septic System

On-site septic disposal systems are common in rural areas where public sewage treatment systems do not exist. A complete modern septic system consists of a buried concrete septic tank, usually 1000 to 1500 gallon capacity, that holds the solid waste from a home's plumbing waste drains, and a septic drain field, that distributes the waste water to the ground where it disperses through the soil or evaporates. The septic tank operates by decomposing solid waste through a variety of bacteria. A properly designed and normally operating septic system is odor free and besides periodic pumping of the septic tank, should last for decades with no maintenance.
