Sentiment

The Sentiment for 18th century readers and writers is an equivalent for a strong romantic, usually exageratedly powerful feeling. Sentiment is represented in Samuel Richardson's novel Pamela. The term and the literary style originates in medieval French,and later Emglish, romanses, where the plot is based on some romantic narrative. The main heroes are usually preoccupied with their love and love sufferings.
