Sense And Sensibility (Film)

Sense and Sensibility is a 1995 film which was adapted by Emma Thompson from the novel Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. It was directed by Ang Lee. The movie stars Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, Gemma Jones, Tom Wilkinson, Greg Wise, Elizabeth Spriggs, Robert Hardy and Harriet Walter. Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay, for which she received general acclaim as well as the Academy Award. The film is faithful to the book, although some liberties are taken. Like all of Jane Austen's novels, Sense and Sensibility is as much a commentary on 18th Century society as a romance. The film captures the plight of genteel ladies "of no fortune" in that period. Sense and Sensibility was nominated for several other Oscars(R) including Best Actress in a Leading Role (Emma Thompson), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Kate Winslet), Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Picture.
