Seljuk (in Arabic Saljūq; in Turkish Seluk; also Seldjuk, Seldjuq, Seljuq) was the bey (chieftain) of a branch of Oghuz Turks known as the Seljuk Turks. He founded the Seljuk dynasty around year 1000. He was succeeded by his son, probably by the name of Mikhail. Seljuk's grandson Toghrl conquered Persia in the mid-11th century.
