Second Chamber

The term second chamber usually refers to the upper house in a bicameral legislature, such as the British House of Lords or the United States Senate. In the Netherlands, the Tweede Kamer is the lower house of the Staten Generaal, the upper house being known as the Eerste Kamer or First Chamber. Until 1971, the Riksdag in Sweden was similarly divided into the Frsta kammaren and Andra kammaren, but has since been a unicameral legislature.
