Sear (Firearm)

In a firearm, the sear is the component of the trigger group which resists pressure on the trigger. When the pre-determined amount of pressure has been applied, the sear will release, allowing the firearm to discharge. The term 'sear' is sometimes (incorrectly) used to describe a complete trigger group.
