Scottish Militant Labour
Scottish Militant Labour
(SML) was a minor
political party
operating in
Scotland
in the
1990s
. It was formed when
Militant Tendency
abandoned its
entryist
strategy towards the
Labour Party
. A strictly
Trotskyist
organisation, its leading member was
Tommy Sheridan
. The party was successful in winning a number of council seats in
Glasgow
in the
1995
unitary authority elections. In
1996
it led the formation of the
Scottish Socialist Alliance
, the precursor of the modern
Scottish Socialist Party
(SSP), formed in
1998
. Members of the former SML still form the basic leadership of the SSP today.
