Scotland, Texas

Scotland is a city located in Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 438. The town is named for Henry J. Scott, the founder of the town.

Geography

Scotland is located at 33°38'32" North, 98°26'54" West (33.642195, -98.448340). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.2 km² (11.3 mi²). 29.0 km² (11.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.44% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 438 people, 160 households, and 116 families residing in the city. The population density is 15.1/km² (39.1/mi²). There are 173 housing units at an average density of 6.0/km² (15.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.21% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.74% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 8.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 160 households out of which 41.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.6% are married couples living together, 3.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% are non-families. 25.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.35. In the city the population is spread out with 33.8% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $37,083, and the median income for a family is $41,667. Males have a median income of $32,045 versus $21,875 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,406. 3.4% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.3% of those under the age of 18 and 12.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
