Schutz-jude

Schutz-Jude, means "Protected Jew", a status for German Jews granted by the royal courts. For example, in October 1763 the King of Prussia granted Moses Mendelssohn the privilege of "Protected Jew" (Schutz-Jude)--which assured his right to undisturbed residence in Berlin.
