Schmidt-cassegrain
Schmidt-Cassegrain
The
Schmidt-Cassegrain
, invented by
Bernhard Schmidt
, is similar to the Cassegrain. In this system the parabolic primary mirror is replaced by a spherical mirror, which introduces
spherical aberration
. This is corrected by a
Schmidt corrector plate
. This type of telescope has some of the advantages of the
refractor
(long focal length) and some of the advantages of the
reflector
(low cost for larger apertures).
