It is a mid-tempo, semi-R&B groove song. Selling 200,000 copies in its first week, "Say You'll Be There" went on to become the first Spice Girls' song to enter at No.1 in Britain. Even though it was released eight months later in the US, "Say You'll Be There" became the highest new entry in history by an non-American act, debuting on the Billboard 100 at #5, before reaching its peak, #3. It even reached #10 in the Billboard R&B chart. The video for "Say You'll Be There" was a gigantic leap from its predesessor, "Wannabe" - shot on the cheap in a King's Cross bar. The glossy promo for the Spice Girl's second single was filmed in the Mojave Desert in the summer of 1996 and saw the group adopting new, fictional identitites. Melanie C played "Katrina Highkick", Geri Halliwell's alter-ego was "Trixie Firecracker", Emma Bunton took on the role of "Kung Fu Candy", Victoria Beckham played "Midnight Miss Suki", while "Blazin' Bad Zula" was played by Melanie Brown.
