Satellite City

Satellite cities are smaller municipalities that are adjacent to a major city which is the core of a metropolitan area. They differ from mere subdivisions or suburbs in that they have their own municipal governments distinct from that of the core metropolis. In U.S. terminology where suburb means separate city government outside of a core city, satellite cities are simply called suburbs and the use of the term satellite city is rare.
