Sata International

Sata Internacional is a Portuguese charter and regularly scheduled airline. The airline is based in the Portuguese autonumous region of Azores.

Brief history

Sata has been flying since August 21, 1941. In the past, it used to be known as Sata Air Aores, but its first name was Sociedade Aoriana de Estudos Aereos (Azorean Society of Aerial Studies). In 1947, the airline made its first flight, with one passenger aboard, between the Azorean islands of So Miguel and Santa Maria. In 1989, Sata came under contract with Wooster to produce the airline's model airplanes. In 1994, the ICAO celebrated 50 years as an organization by awarding medals to each airline they felt had done the most significant contribution to aviation in their country, and SATA International was their choice in Portugal. Nowadays, both names of Sata Internacional and Sata Air Aores continue to be used by the company, with Air Aores being a domestic sub-division of Sata International.
