Sariska

Sariska is a national park in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It covers an area of about 800 square kilometers and its wildlife includes sambar, spotted deer, wild boar, and tigers. Project Tiger, the project launched in India to protect and conserve tigers covers this sanctuary. Reports of rampant poaching in the sanctuary lead to a survey which revealed the practical absence of tigers in the sanctuary, prompting high level inquiries and the constitution of a National level committee for supervising Project Tiger. The national park also contains ruined temples, a fort, and pavilions, built by the maharajas of Alwar.
