Sardis City is a town located in Etowah County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,438.

Geography

Sardis City is located at 34°10'26" North, 86°7'17" West (34.173967, -86.121319). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.1 km² (7.4 mi²). 19.1 km² (7.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.27% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,438 people, 572 households, and 458 families residing in the town. The population density is 75.3/km² (195.1/mi²). There are 597 housing units at an average density of 31.3/km² (81.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.10% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 572 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.7% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 18.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.82. In the town the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.6 males. The median income for a household in the town is $36,000, and the median income for a family is $44,063. Males have a median income of $31,875 versus $21,711 for females. The per capita income for the town is $18,411. 10.0% of the population and 7.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.9% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
