The total area is 3.44% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,383 people, 2,011 households, and 1,560 families residing in the town. The population density is 42.1/km² (108.9/mi²). There are 2,058 housing units at an average density of 16.1/km² (41.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.42% White, 0.17% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,011 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.1% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% are non-families. 17.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 2.99.
